Polycronis Paul Akouris is a medical student at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. He previously completed an Honours Bachelor of Medical Science in Biochemistry of Infection and Immunity and a Master of Science in Microbiology and Immunology at Western University. As a medical student, Paul has developed a strong interest in vascular surgery, with research spanning artificial intelligence, endovascular imaging, surgical education, and health equity. His current AI-focused research includes developing deep learning–based tools for vascular image segmentation, intraoperative guidance during fenestrated endovascular aortic repair, and automated segmentation of the aorta and major branch vessels from CT angiography to support anatomy-aware vascular imaging and future risk-prediction workflows. He is also involved in qualitative research exploring wound care access and barriers to vascular surgery care in rural Indigenous communities.
