Falen Demsas, MD is an integrated vascular surgery resident in the academic development phase of her training at Massachusetts General Hospital. She earned her undergraduate degree in Biology from Boston College, where she also minored in Faith, Peace, and Justice with a concentration in medical ethics. She received her medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School, graduating as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. During medical school, exceptional mentorship from vascular surgeons and physician leaders at Dartmouth inspired her pursuit of a career in vascular surgery.
Falen’s academic interests center on quality improvement, health equity, and health policy, with a focus on strengthening systems of care, enhancing patient understanding and engagement, and reducing disparities in surgical outcomes. Within the MGH Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, her research includes initiatives to reduce hospital length of stay through interdisciplinary care huddles, improve hospitalized patients’ understanding of their treatment plans, and expand access to peripheral artery disease screening through the MGH Community Care Van program.
This upcoming year she has been selected as a Commonwealth Fund Fellow in Health Policy and Leadership at Harvard University, where she will also pursue a Master of Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Through her clinical, research, and policy work, Falen is committed to advancing equitable, patient-centered vascular care and improving outcomes for patients with vascular disease.
