He received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Hamamatsu University School of Medicine. After early training in general surgery at Hamamatsu University, he completed residency training in cardiovascular surgery at the Division of Cardiovascular Surgery, Keio University School of Medicine, and subsequently returned to Hamamatsu University as a fellow in vascular surgery. He received the Best Presentation Award at the Korean-Japanese Joint Vascular Surgery Meeting in 2005 and 2019.
