Dr. Ahmed Naiem is an assitant professor of vascular surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. After completing medical school at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman with ‘Distinction with Honors’, he moved to Montreal, Canada for integrated vascular surgery residency at McGill University. During training, he was awarded the McGill University Transition to Clinical Practice (TCP) Surgery Resident Teaching Award and Kent MacKenzie Award for Educational Leadership and Excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. His scholarly activities landed him a nomination for the prestigious Canadian Society for Vascular Surgery Research Award.
Dr. Naiem joined the division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at UCSF on faculty and amaintains clinical practice at UCSF Medical Center and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. He has been heavily involved in the UCSF Center for Limb Preservation and Diabetic Foot multi-disciplinary program. His clinical practice encompasses all aspects of open and endovascular surgery with special interest in lower extremity revascularization in patients with diabetes mellitus. His research focuses on the management of chornic limb-threatening ischemia in safety-net hospitals with emphasis on identifying drivers of poor outcomes in this sub-population.
